B.o.B Rules Hot 100, Doubles Up In Top 10

by Gary Trust, N.Y.  |   April 29, 2010 11:39 EDT

B.o.B, born Bobby Ray Simmons, Jr., leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week with his introductory single, “Nothin’ on You,” featuring Bruno Mars.

After debuting last week at No. 12, the rapper’s “Airplanes,” featuring Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams, flies to No. 9. 92% of the song’s chart points stem from digital sales (160,000, up 16%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.

A third track by the rapper, “Bet I,” featuring T.I. and Playboy Tre, opens on the Hot 100 at No. 72. As previously reported, B.o.B’s just-released debut album, “The Adventures of Bobby Ray,” will vie for the No. 1 spot on next week’s Billboard 200.

Rihanna‘s former five-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Rude Boy” remains at No. 2, while Taio Cruz‘s “Break Your Heart,” featuring Ludacris, lifts 4-3. The latter song jumps 6-4 on Radio Songs with 95 million in audience (up 11%), according to Nielsen BDS.

Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” rebounds 5-4 in its 37th week on the Hot 100, while 30-week-old “Hey, Soul Sister” by Train retreats 3-5.

Up 8-6, Usher‘s “OMG,” featuring, scores the Hot 100’s top airplay increase for a second consecutive week (53.3 million in audience, up 38%) and adds Digital Gainer honors (160,000 downloads sold, up 22%).

Jason Derulo‘s “In My Head” descends 6-7 on the Hot 100, and Ke$ha‘s “Your Love Is My Drug” advances 9-8. As noted in yesterday’s posting of Chart Beat, the latter title is just the second song in the last year-and-a-half to reach the top 10 (13-9) on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart in a mere four weeks, joining Young Money’s “BedRock” in February.

Below “Airplanes” at No. 9 on the Hot 100, Lady Gaga‘s “Telephone,” featuring Beyonce, dips 7-10. Lady Gaga’s new single, “Alejandro,” bounds 28-20 with gains in airplay (35.5 million, up 23%) and digital sales (62,000, up 27%).

As “Glee: the Music, the Power of Madonna” launches atop the Billboard 200, four tracks from the covers collection enter the Hot 100. Led by “Like a Prayer,” which enters the Hot 100 at No. 27 and Digital Songs at No. 10 (89,000 downloads sold), the album’s seven songs available a la carte sold a combined 220,000 downloads. The series’ April 20 Madonna-centric episode additionally spurred interest in the Queen of Pop’s catalog, with Madonna’s original versions of the individually-available songs covered by the “Glee” cast shifting 52,000 downloads, a 246% increase.

Beyond the glare of “Glee” and B.o.B, four other titles debut on the Hot 100. Shontelle starts at No. 88 with “Impossible.” The singer reached No. 36 in 2008 with “T-Shirt.” Country titans Reba and Tim McGraw bow at Nos. 90 and 91 with “I Keep on Loving You” and “Still,” respectively. At No. 93, Ciara debuts with “Ride,” featuring Ludacris. The song is the Hot Shot Debut on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at No. 65.
