Lady GaGa Scores Hot 100 Milestone With ‘Poker Face’

Lady GaGa
April 02, 2009 10:15 AM ET
Ayala Ben-Yehuda, L.A. and Silvio Pietroluongo, N.Y.

Lady GaGa unseats Flo Rida at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 this week, becoming the first artist in nearly ten years to reach the top of the chart with her first two chart entries.

The New York native, born Stefani Germanotta, previously led the list for three weeks with “Just Dance” in January. “Just Dance” is No. 9 on this week’s chart.

The last performer to launch with a pair of Hot 100 chart-toppers was Christina Aguilera, who reigned with “Genie in a Bottle” (1999) and “What a Girl Wants” (2000).

After “Poker Face” at No. 1 and “Right Round” at No. 2, this week’s top 10 includes “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” by Soulja Boy Tell ’em featuring Sammie, at No. 3; “Dead and Gone,” by T.I. featuring Justin Timberlake, at No. 4; “Blame It,” by Jamie Foxx featuring T-Pain, at No. 5; and “Gives You Hell,” by the All-American Rejects, at No. 6.

Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” gets a bump in airplay to push the song to No. 7 on the Hot 100 this week, while Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” climbs to No. 8.

A 108% digital sales boost gets Ciara back into the top 10 for the first time since 2006 with “Love Sex Magic,” featuring Justin Timberlake, at No. 10. “Love Sex Magic” is the week’s greatest digital gainer.

Elsewhere on the chart, the Black Eyed Peas leap to No. 39 with “Boom Boom Pow,” the week’s greatest airplay gainer. Hannah Montana’s “Let’s Get Crazy” is the week’s Hot Shot Debut at No. 57, while the TV character’s “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” debuts at No. 87—giving Miley/Hannah three spots on this week’s chart.

Yet another track from the “Hannah Montana: The Movie” soundtrack, Taylor Swift’s “Crazier,” debuts at No. 72.

On Hot Country Songs, Randy Travis becomes the first artist in 27 years to send a title into the top 10 twice, as his and Carrie Underwood’s cover of his 1988 chart-topper, “I Told You So” rises 11-9.

Kings of Leon follow their first Modern Rock airplay chart No. 1, “Sex on Fire,” by sending “Use Somebody” to No. 1 this week, too. Flo Rida’s “Right Round” becomes the rapper’s second No. 1 on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart, following his “Low” debut last year. Flo Rida’s “R.O.O.T.S.” album will bow on the Billboard 200 chart next week.

Black Eyed Peas On Course For First Hot 100 No. 1

Black Eyed Peas headed to No. 1.

The Black Eyed Peas’ new single, “Boom Boom Pow” (, will make a big boom on next week’s singles charts. Interscope is projecting the song, released on March 31, will sell over 400,000 downloads in its first week, enabling a debut high atop the Hot Digital Songs chart.

That sum will likely propel the single to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the act its first chart-topper.

The group has charted nine singles on the tally, including “Boom,” but have only gone as high as No. 3 (with both “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” and “My Humps”). This week, “Boom” is at No. 39 on the Hot 100 based solely on its strong out-of-the-gate airplay.

Meanwhile, Keith Urban and Prince are both still in the hunt for a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry prognosticators suggest Urban’s “Defying Gravity” (Capitol Nashville) could sell between 170,000-180,000 while Prince’s Target-exclusive “LotusFlow3r” (NPG) may shift in the range of 160,000-170,000.

Those projections have grown since Wednesday, April 1, when the Urban was forecast to move 150,000-160,000 while Prince was in the range of 140,000-150,000.

The new Billboard Hot 100 chart will be unveiled on Thursday, April 9, while the new Billboard 200 albums chart will hit on Wednesday, April 8.
