TOP (HUNDRED)100 Greatest Rock Songs of the 1990s – This list will surprise you!

This lists will surprise you as the terminology “rock” is usually associated with songs with heavy use of instruments such as guitars and drums, yet this list contains quite a number of rap, r&b sub-genre ‘New Jack Swing’ and adult contemporary/adult top 40 songs. The list contains many great artistes and though I don’t fully agree with all the songs named, it does pretty much cover all artistes that should/could fall under this category as well as other genres(eg. Sheryl Crow appears but only “All I Wanna Do” is listed and “Every Day Is A Winding Road” is surprisingly/sadly absent) and this is an occurence that happens for many artistes on this list [only one or two of their many hits are included – eg. Santana, Snoop Dogg, U2, Alanis Morissette]. Noticably too, are songs by artistes such as Jewel (SHE, SHERYL CROW and ALANIS MORISSETTE WERE THE QUEENS OF CONTEMPORARY ROCK/POP-ROCK IN THE 90s) and songs themselves such as “Take My Picture” by Filter are not on the list, which to me is a HUGE surprise. However this is a VERY good list of music (eg. The Cranberries’ “Linger”, Santana’s “Smooth”, Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day”, Dr. Dre’s “Ain’t Nothing But A G Thang”, Method Man’s “All I Need” – to name a few) and will tap you into most of the greatest artists of the 90s.

19 Responses to “TOP (HUNDRED)100 Greatest Rock Songs of the 1990s – This list will surprise you!”

  1. Nice page.., man

  2. alot of the songs are not even close to rock songs?

  3. Since when are LL Cool J and MC Hammer rock artists? Maybe, just maybe, the hip-hop, the rap, and the pop should go on their own list.

It kind of irks me that anyone would categorize them as rock.

  4. I second what these guys all said. Keep the lists coming, I try to keep an open mind when it comes to music. Like some of them songs though!

  5. dude where’s Led Zeppelin? And when is Snoop Doggy dog rock? I agree with Brittany and weiner mostr of the songs aren’t rock. This list sucks

  6. lol sheryl crow is rock?!

  7. If eminem is a rocker, than monkeys will fly out of my ass.

  8. if aerosmith isn’t on there then i shoul do the pooping in your mouths

  9. What the hell 100 greatest rock songs list not only is the worst song Nirvana ever made besides maybe marijuana the Number 1 song but Rap,hip-hop, and R&B are not only on there but half the damn list? and where the hell is I dont know the Beatles, The Doors, Neil Young, Cream, Tool etc. etc. no room on the list with such great “rock” songs as Nuthin but a G thang and Baby got back?

  10. hy, Check out the photos of my new emo hairstyle

  11. Sweet child o’mine??

  12. I hope you all know you sound ignorant by complaining about rap being on there. I hope you all realize that rap is actually a sub genre of rock.

Learn somethin’ new every day, huh?

  13. this is a 90s list, not 60s, so there wouldn’t be any beatles or doors..sheryl crow is adult contemporary, dr dre is rap, and this list states that it mixes those genres with rock music..i think its a great list, although iris should be absolutely nowhere near hard knock life..they belong on two different sides of the list

  14. What a shitty fucking list. No Zeppelin, no Doors, not even the fucking Beatles. What a fucking idiot.

    • everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion … however ur reason for calling this list shitty isn’t valid as neither red zeppelin, the doors nor the beatles were very prominent in the 90s’ …. ye realize the list said “of the 1990s” — i’m gonna guess u neva saw dat

  15. Great list, especially for “Smells like Teen Spirit” in number 1. Greatest song, no discussion

  16. Most of these aren’t rock.

  17. i seriously enjoy all your posting choice, very unique.
don’t give up and also keep creating as it simply good worth to read it,
looking forward to view way more of your own articles, have a good one ;)

  18. How can u put Nirvana first, so many rapers, what about Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Aerosmith, u dont deserve to make a list (EVEN IF ITS THE 90S)
